MOVING OUT

Tenants can move from their properties by a transfer (such as bidding on other council properties) or by mutual exchange.

The TMO requires four weeks’ notice of your intention to vacate your property. During this period you will still be charged for your rent regardless of whether you have another tenancy starting during the same period.

You are required to bring the keys to your property into the office by the end of the four weeks’ notice otherwise you may be charged another week’s rent. If you give the keys to the office before the notice expires, you will still be charged for the remainder of the notice period.

If you do not return the keys to your property, the TMO will force entry and change the locks. If this has to be done, the TMO will charge you for the cost of the forced entry and the changing of the locks.

What it is housing moves?

Housing moves is the Mayor of London’s housing mobility scheme for Londoners who are tenants of London boroughs or housing associations. It is designed to help social tenants who want to move to another part of London.

How does it work

  • Boroughs put a small number  of properties into a pot
  • Social tenants who live in those boroughs can bid for properties in the pot at www.housingmoves.org
  • The same number of moves into and out of each borough (equalisation)

Eligibility

The applicant must:

  • Be a current social rented tenant(s) with an assured, secure or a fixed term tenancy
  • Be a resident(irrespective of landlord) in a borough that it contributing properties to the scheme
  • Be the tenant of a participating social landlord
  • Be the sole tenant or both tenants (if the tenancy is joint)
  • Not be on an introductory or starter tenancy and,
  • not be the subject of a Notice of Seeking Possession or notice to quit

Applicants must also have a (reasonable) clear rent account and no ongoing history of Antisocial behaviour.

Prioritisation

Willing to downsize

  • Additional priority if giving up more bedrooms.
  • Allowed one more bedroom than assessed need

In work or training (any household member)

  • 16 hours per week
  • Continuous employment for last 6 months
  • Training must lead to employment (e.g apprenticeship)

Overcrowded households

Caring responsibilities (any household member)
Unpaid care or support for family member or friend

Any other eligible applicant

 Bedroom allocation

A standard number of bedrooms is allocated to each household in accordance with its

  • Age/sex/marital status composition
  • the relationship of the members to one another

This determines the size of the properties that households can place bids for. This is an automatic process – you do not need to work it out yourself.

Verification

Once an applicant has completed their application form the referring landlord will be notified that a resident has applied for the scheme. Please allow 15 working days for your application to be verified.
